Bahwa Undang-Undang Nomor 14 Tahun 2008 tentang Keterbukaan Informasi Publik bertujuan untuk mewujudkan tata kelola pemerintahan yang baik dan bertanggung jawab, melalui penerapan prinsip-prinsip akuntabilitas, transparansi, dan supremasi hukum serta melibatkan partisipasi masyarakat dalam setiap proses kebijakan publik. Proses keterlibatan masyarakat perlu diakomodasikan dengan cara mempermudah jaminan akses informasi publik berdasarkan pedoman pengelolaan informasi publik dan dokumentasi. Pengelolaan informasi publik dan dokumentasi diharapkan dapat mendukung pelaksanaan tugas pemerintahan dan pembangunan dengan tetap menjaga prinsip kehati-hatian dalam kelangsungan organisasi. Penerapan prinsip-prinsip good governance ini pada dasarnya sangat tergantung pada kesiapan masing-masing perangkat daerah di lingkungan Pemerintah Kabupaten Wajo dalam mengelola informasi publik dan dokumentasi bagi masyarakat. Untuk itu, sebagai upaya menciptakan dan menjamin kelancaran dalam pelayanan informasi publik dan dokumentasi, maka dibentuk Pejabat Pengelola Informasi dan Dokumentasi (PPID) di lingkungan Pemerintah Kabupaten Wajo.

  •  Pada tanggal 19 Oktober 2016 diterbitkan Peraturan Daerah Kabupaten Wajo Nomor 6 Tahun 2016 tentang Pembentukan dan Susunan Perangkat Daerah, yang merupakan regulasi pembentukan Dinas Komunikasi, Informatika dan Statistik Kabupaten Wajo.
  •  17 Desember 2016 diterbitkan Peraturan Bupati Wajo Nomor 45 Tahun 2016 tentang Kedudukan, Susunan Organisasi, Rincian Tugas dan Fungsi serta Tata Kerja Dinas Komunikasi, Informatika dan Statistik Kabupaten Wajo.
  •  3 Januari 2017 Dinas Komunikasi, Informatika dan Statistik Kabupaten Wajo efektif melakukan tugas dan fungsinya sebagai pelaksana urusan pemerintahan bidang Komunikasi, Informatika, bidang Persandian dan bidang Statistik yang sebelumnya bergabung dengan Dinas Perhubungan.
  •  11 April 2017 diterbitkan Peraturan Bupati Wajo Nomor 23 Tahun 2017 tentang Pedoman Pengelolaan Pelayanan Informasi dan Dokumentasi. Regulasi ini merupakan Pedoman Pengelolaan Pelayanan Informasi dan Dokumentasi di Lingkungan Pemerintah Kabupaten Wajo.
